LocalityThe Garden House Studio lies within East Devon ‘area of outstanding natural beauty’ and midway through the stretch of Jurassic coast, which was named a World Heritage Site in 2001. There’s lots to explore on foot or by car, from coastal adventures to inland markets: drive East to Charmouth for fossiling and cliff top walks, beyond to Eype and Seatown for smaller more rugged beaches, 15mins further East to Bridport with its street markets, arts scene, cinema and Jalopy pizza van. Drop down to West Bay for dramatic sandstone cliffs, Sladers yard gallery and Riverside restaurant. East of Bridport lies Burton Bradstock and its famous seafood cafe, Hive Beach cafe and then on to Abbotsbury & Chesil Beach. Drive 20mins West from The Garden House Studio into Devon for fishing villages, Beer and Branscombe: good pubs, fish&chips, walks, boat hire etc and further to Sidmouth, Topsham and eventually Exeter with its famous cathedral, lovely quayside walk and array of shops. Or go inland to nearby Axminster to find the fantastic River Cottage Canteen, and the TV-friendly HQ set in farmland 5mins away. Continuing the rich culture of local food & dining, The Wild Garlic in Beaminster is Mat Follas’ award winning restaurant. Local town Honiton has highly recommended antique-shopping and street markets + gastro pub, The Holt. |
